Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman

We listened to and acted out one of my favorite stories this week! This is a great Halloween story with a good message and very catchy music. The children loved it! We took turns acting it out and the children did an awesome job remembering what words they were supposed to say as each character in the story. It was a fun way to practice their performing skills. I will be letting the drama teachers know that they have some talented children coming! Listen to this story online and if you get the chance to buy it sometime, it is a good choice.

We had lots of fun focusing on the letters Gg and Ww this week. They were spooky letters that fell in nicely with our Halloween theme. We made some sucker ghosts and paper plate witches. Poke your head into our classroom if you are at the school - it is starting to look pretty scary! Ask your child to tell you some words that have the /g/ sound or /w/ sound in them. They are starting to get pretty good at generating words that begin with a given sound. If they are stuck get them to make the sound that usually helps. You could play a guessing game as well....for instance "What is white and flies on Halloween?" or "What is white and sticks things together?"  Little things like this only take a few minutes while you are driving or making supper but they are great practice for the children.  Also don't forget to keep rhyming (this guessing game would work well for rhymes as well)!!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see?

We had so much fun with the letter Bb! The kids found this letter much easier to brainstorm a bunch of words. See how many words they can tell you that begin with b.  We blew bubbles outside and then had bubble gum!  I am adding some links to one of our stories "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" as well as "...

We finished up with the letter Kk by having a karate demonstration. Zachary came and talked to the children about karate (self-defense, discipline, number of belts, etc.) and then he showed them lots of kicks and karate moves. The kindergarten kids seemed to really enjoy this - ask them to tell you...

Letter K - K is Okay with me

Our letter this week is K. This is a great song that we enjoyed today! Listen for all the words that begin with the k sound and see if you can think of anymore. How about words with the k sound at the end?

Letter Tt Song

Another song that we enjoyed last week. Listen to it and find all the words that start with the T sound. Parents: does the tune sound familiar?
