Indigenous Cinema

Interested in watching Indigenous films?

The National Film Board of Canada has launched Indigenous Cinema, a website that offers free streaming of more than 200 titles by Indigenous directors. Check it out! You can browse by subject or browse through all films to find something for your age group! This is a wonderful free resource and can be used for all subject areas.

Also check out their Educational Playlists for ages 7-17 which are films on themes that tie in with our Canadian curriculum and address the important issues in our world today! https://www.nfb.ca/education/educational-playlists/#for-the-classroom?ed_en=feature_2&feature_type=promobox&promobox_id=2604

Enjoy :)

Who is your favourite stuffy?

Share with me :)

During Culture classes this year, most students were introduced to some of the Grandfather teachings.

There are 7 Grandfather teachings: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Humility, Truth, and Wisdom.

Each of the 7 Grandfather teachings have an animal that coincides with the teaching.

In the document above you will find pictures of each animal and their teaching explained. You will also find how to apply each of the 7 Grandfather teachings in your everyday life.

Many students at NSEE have been introduced to some of the Grandfather teachings stuffed animals, but since our school year was cut short, we did not get to learn about them all. If you wish to see all 7 Grandfather teachings animals, please visit my photo album titled 7 Grandfather Teachings. All 7 stuffed animals have special names.

Check out the album & explore the document above to learn more about the animals and their teachings!

*Culture Challenge*

Choose one of the 7 Grandfather Teachings and write a story about a time in your life when you used the teaching. You may also wish to draw a picture. Week 8 - Culture Home Learning (Grade K-2)

Culture Challenge (Grades K-2)

1. Watch the video of Canada for Children to learn about Canada's Culture and some of the symbols that represent Canada and our Culture. Learn some similarities and differences between Canada and the United States.

2. Draw a picture of something you learned from the video about Canada's Culture. It can be a sign or symbol of Canada or you may choose to make a video of you with your drawing and tell me why you chose to draw what you did. You may also write about it if you wish! Something to think about while your choosing what to draw or write about: Was there something mentioned in the video that you did NOT know about Canada?

3. Share your drawing and/or video with Ms. Mountain via email or Facebook and I will enter your name in for the draw at the end of the week!

*Reminder to ALL Junior Cobras* This is the last week of the Month to submit a Culture Challenge to have your name entered in the draw for a prize! Enjoy your week and have fun with your home learning! It's almost Summer :)
