Week 7 Culture Home Learning: Challenge #2

Culture Challenge #2

Watch the video about fur trade to help you understand more about it and how it evolved over 250 years.

What types of animals were included in the fur trade?

What are some of the items the Hudson's Bay Company exchanged for pelts?

Research more about the fur trade and how/why indigenous men and women played such crucial roles in the fur trade. You may wish to use the following website: https://www.canadashistory.ca/explore/fur-trade/untold-stories or another of your choice.

Showcase what you have learned or researched about the fur trade and share it with me in the form of a couple sentences, a paragraph, a story, a video or draw me a picture or a chart! I look forward to seeing them :)

Reminder to all Junior Cobras: This week, I challenge you to complete one of the two different Culture challenges on my teacher page. Rememeber, if you send me a picture or video of you or the work you completed, I will put your name in the draw for a special prize at the end of the month, AS WELL AS, submit your name to the ASD-N webpage: Celebrate Home Learning (ASD-N) which can be viewed with the following link: http://asd-n.nbed.nb.ca/other/celebrating-home-learning

Thank you to Mya Augustine for her participation AGAIN last week, and for exceding the home learning suggestions each time! Way to go Mya!

Week 7 Culture Home Learning: Challenge #1

Culture Challenge #1

Explore the many various forms of Canadian Indigenous Art on the above National Geographic website and tell me which type or which one was your favourite and why? You can share this with me through a couple of short sentences, a story, a video, or draw me a picture!

The website offers something for all ages, but you may choose which parts you wish to analyze or simply tell me your favourite type of Indigenous art. Examples on the website; watch the short two minute video and click through the slide show to look at the work of many Indigenous Canadian artists. You may also choose to scroll through the entire website, simply looking at the many different types of artwork, such as; an indigenous family roasting and eating moose meat over a fire or a hand-made wooden canoe. You may wish to write about/draw a picture of a time when you had a bonfire with your family? Did you roast anything? or Have you ever gone canoeing or boating? I would love to hear about any of your experiences :)

Teaching COVID -19 - Canada's History

Looking for something new to learn today? This website is a great resource for parents and children! This resource will help students to understand the coronavirus and the historic signficance a pandemic will have on our country. I challenge you to explore the website alone or with a parent and tell them something you have learned about pandemics.

Questions to ponder as you research:

How do you think we will teach history after this moment?

Why will it be so important for this moment to be a part of Canada's history?

What can YOU do now to help our Canada?

Congratulations to Annie Ashton in Mrs. Girourard's Kindergarten, for completing last weeks Culture Challenge of researching wolves or drawing a picture of a Wolf. Annie watched a youtube video of how to draw a Wolf and she sure did a wonderful job! Great job Annie and thank you again for your participation and way to go on challenging yourself with something different!

*ALL NSEE COBRAS*

Myself and my colleagues at NSEE love to see students participating and still engaging in educational activities through home learning.
