Take a look at the octopus video we watched because Ollie Octopus is our Zoophonics O animal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH0JNSIrBA4 Here is the Story Bots Letter O link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0LOjbDKvq4 And Sesame Street's "Would you like to buy an O?" that reminded us about the two sounds for O: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml6Yqu-spnM The children are hearing letters in more places than just the start of words too. That Ollie Octopus was in the middle of words like Mom and dog. They are starting to blend sounds to make words both orally and by making the sounds of the letters they see. So smart!

We had no problem coming up with words that start with D! Take a look at how many /d/ words there are in this Story Bots video alone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7E-tnTiW_Y The children are excited to learn words now too - so here is a video that went with the book we read about a d-o-g, dog! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBYuSmqG6fw Some children know the word Dad. We didn't listen to this song about My Dad, but you might enjoy it together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9X6S-PPRso We have a lot of dinosaur fans too! They might like to check out this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0FOZ0-VpcU

Count Underwater!

This is a great game for counting as well as numeral recognition. You can choose numbers up to 5 or numbers up to 10. If your child doesn't have a solid knowledge of the numbers 1-5 yet, just focus on those numbers for now. This game is also tablet friendly.

Math Fun with the Gingerbread Man!

This is another great webpage for having fun with numbers! There are different difficulty levels as well as different games (counting, matching and ordering). Spending a few minutes each day playing games will help strengthen your child's number concepts. Computer games are a great way to learn while having fun! This game is also tablet friendly.

Literacy Game: Hanging Monkeys!

This is a great game to practice remembering letter sounds and blending them. Have your child make the sound of each letter in the word and see if they can "hear" the word that the sounds are making. If this is still difficult for them you can make the 3 sounds and see if they can hear the word. We have been practicing blending words in class. They have been guessing my secret word! We have been enjoying this little game. This is an important pre-reading skill that can be lots of fun to practice.

While the kindergarten are learning about the Letter Ll Grade 1 is learning about how the Letter L "blends" with other letters so that you need to listen carefully to hear and spell words. Check out these videos for some extra exposure to lots of /l/ blends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBqfo55RqLM&list=PLRobggFI-BzSu3nNVZpr75... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li52N4KKzro&index=5&list=PLRobggFI-BzSu3... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTqzw4p34t8&list=PLRobggFI-BzSu3nNVZpr75... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHpbfu1Qx0E&list=PLRobggFI-BzSu3nNVZpr75...
