Here is the link to the N Story Bot video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZG0GQTskhE We can read the word "no"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kotLRKkwZh4 We also discussed that owls are nocturnal animals - they hunt at night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYKCklr2GvY We  listened very carefully to the end of words and heard lots of  the /n/ sound there too - Ethan and Caden's name; wagon, pumpkin...Can you and your child think of more?

The Story Bots had lots of words that started with the /j/ sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bGQ-XlLk8M In our class, we had 2 students with names starting with J - Jacob and Josephine.  The Sesame Street crew have some names that star with J too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYMpRSvg2Y We  made Jack-o-lanterns too (paper ones so far!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mph3hygIFU We practiced making the letter J - both the upper case that stands on the line and the lower case that looks like a fish hook hanging in the water.

Can you see the tiny letter "v"s that make the fangs on our vampire bat headbands? Our stuffed Vincent Bat approved!
Halloween is a great time to learn about the letter V too! There was a cute vampire on our door the children could read his speeech bubble as they walked in...."I am a vampire".  We read about bats and vampire bats. We found out they are not as scary as we thought! Can your child tell you how vampire bats get their food?  We found lots of other words that start with /v/ too. Grover has lots in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQb6gTJD7zA Check out this V Video - a  volcano ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAiLobOIUTw And we can't forget the Story Bots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNnVgNuagWM

Mrs. Hendry's W Wand could not help pointing to things in the classroom that started with the /w/ sound! It went to a whale, Will, water bottles, pictures of a witch and a wizard, my watch and Willie Weasel's picture! Wow! Our Zoophonics animal is Willie Weasel but since it is so close to Halloween we had to talk about Wanda Witch too! Check ou this video; did you notice the weasel? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDJ0a_g-weU The children laughed at the antics of the letter W with Kermit The Frog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN_0HDXCyNs The Letter W was tricky getting away from the Detective. How did he get away? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0iLTufp_bk

We are learning about the hard-working letter I! It makes 2 sounds - /i/ like in "Inny Inchworm" and /i/ like in "ice cream". I is also a word - we have been writing it and have it on our word wall now. You may enjoy watching these Ii clips with your child. How many /i/ sounding words can they remember? They may show you how smart they are by saying words with the /i/ sound in the middle. Grade 1 is spelling words with /i/ in the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phqQO-istAI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUcWNz4YXlA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG1nCrnUim4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHr9LqADJ1Q

The kindergarten students have been comparing amounts (dogs/balls; jack-o-lanterns/candles...) and using the terms more, fewer and the same amount. Check out this link with your child to have some fun with the terms at home: http://www.ixl.com/math/kindergarten/fewer-and-more-comparing-groups

Jacob Jardine and his grandparents informed us about the War Amps Champ program today. Jacob demonstrated his prosthetic arm and told us about how he participates in activities sponsored by the War Amps. We watched videos that showed other amputees doing many sports - even swimming and figure...

Gordo Gorilla was hiding in the fancy G g bag! Ask your child what else was in there. Did they remember the glasses? the Groovy girl and the gold necklace? the garbage can? the ghost with a guitar wearing glasses? Good for them! Check out the gorilla song that taught us interesting gorilla facts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3QkwLkkgUY We are learning the word go tomorrow and watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PaKQ9dVk1U Don't feed them too many Gummy Bears or you may need to do this dance to wear it off!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hn61z3FlMQ We listened to The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and a few stories with a ghost - Halloween is coming!
