Mrs. Hendry - Archived - 09/2016

Keep checking back for class pictures and learning links!

We should have watched this video on Friday when it was our Charlie's birthday! Listen for all the /ch/ sounds in the words in this video!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky81MwcLrXE&nohtml5=False

On "Between The Lions" we found "Cliff Hanger and The Chuckling Chickens" - we had a chuckle too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA_yUbom-tE&nohtml5=False

Of course we had to look at the spellings of words with ch at the beginning!  Check out this link for those: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4boeHjr-JWU&nohtml5=False

Listen to stories online!

We tried out the new Smartboard in the library today. We listened to and watched a reading of  "I Need My Monster!"  The children really enjoyed it and wanted the link for this cold day.

We won't say why we are learning to draw butterflies and flowers this week but the children wanted me to post the links:

Alligator Pie was a hit at the Music Festival on Thursday. The adjudicator loved our actions and our smiles! Great job boys and girls!

We had a great time today pouring water into different containers to see which one holds the most. Can your child explain the procedure to you? Ask them about the "salsa" jar.  Next week we will use terms like heavy and light as we discuss mass.

Here are som links that will help you use the math vocabulary that is so important to understanding and discussing these measurement concepts:

We will be doing activities leading up to Earth Day which is coming up on Friday. We will be singing these songs - it has the words so you can sing along. I noticed some of the words don't match - can you find them too?

We had lots of fun in math class lately. In our measurement units we have been checking out how long/ tall and short things are compared to each other.

You may want to have some fun with this at home! Here are some ideas: Line your family up in order of height;  line up shoes in order of length; roll out playdoh (or cookie dough ! ) - who can make the longest :"snake"? ; line up the stuffed animals in order of height...

Sesame Street has fun with this concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVJQcwga0eI  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USGCnq0SRms and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtDBSvDbzxA

Ask your child about "the same starting point" as you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWHivueHzg

Here is a link to some printable worksheets that address this topic too: http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/tall-short.php

We are getting ready for the music festival. At the risk of spoiling your experience when you come to watch I am posting the link to our poem with the actions because the children enjoy it so much. What a great way to celebrate Poetry Month!

A very funky version that you may want to practice at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YSn6UuU_pU&nohtml5=False

We read the funny story Mrs. Wishy Washy by Joy Cowley. This song seems to go with it so well! Can you do all the actions too?

Here is a link to the story too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLTa1PPM9Ds Did you notice that your child can read many of the words in this book! Exciting!
