C is for Cookie!

How could I resist the classic Cookie Monster song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye8mB6VsUHw and the Story Bots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDnzj88O6aQ We practiced spelling cat and we tried car too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frRcDMGdTWM But be careful! we found out that C is a copycat letter! It copies Kayo Kangaroo's /k/ sound but it also copies Sammy Snake's /s/ sound! And it makes a different sound when it is with the letter h, in words like chair, check, cheek...can you think of more? Tricky!

Ollie Octopus? It's the letter O!

Take a look at the octopus video we watched because Ollie Octopus is our Zoophonics O animal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH0JNSIrBA4 Here is the Story Bots Letter O link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0LOjbDKvq4 And Sesame Street's "Would you like to buy an O?" that reminded us about the two sounds for O: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml6Yqu-spnM The children are hearing letters in more places than just the start of words too. That Ollie Octopus was in the middle of words like Mom and dog. They are starting to blend sounds to make words both orally and by making the sounds of the letters they see. So smart!

Dog, Dad, and Dee Dee Deer - It's the Leter D!

We had no problem coming up with words that start with D! The Letter L - Lovely!

We did Lizzie Lizard's Letter L this week. We found some lizard books to read and found out what lizards eat. Can your child tell you? We Roasted The Pumkin Seeds: Yummy!

When we carved our Jack-o-lantern we saved our seeds. We found this recipe where we boil the seeds in salt water before you roast them - best pumkin seed eating ever! The seed disppeared into tummies quickly! http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/toasted_pumpkin_seeds/

Safety Education Site From Mrs. Colwell

Nocturnal Nigel Night Owl and the Letter N!

Nigel Night Owl introduced us to the Letter N this week. J is for Jerry Jellyfish... and Jack-o-lantern!

The Story Bots had lots of words that started with the /j/ sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bGQ-XlLk8M In our class, we had 4 students with names starting with J - Jacob, Josephine, Jeremy and Jesse!  The Sesame Street crew ahve some names that star with J too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYMpRSvg2Y We practiced making the letter J - both the upper case that stands on the line and the lower case that looks like a fish hook hanging in the water.
