One of our sight words this week was can. If we can read "can" we can rhyme and read other words with "an" inside them! These video links were fun ways to practice this:Sesame Street "The Golden "an":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbJecXQ1HgkPuppets Betty Lou and Charlie sing their "an" song:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-scweEW9riA

These videos are a fun way to practice sight words - try them out on a storm day or March Break. There are extra sight words on these links so don't worry if you don't know all of them yet! Check your homework folder for the words we have learned.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rmYfo84hyghttps://www.youtube.com/watch...

We are learning trickier sight words! Come, comes, and said don't "play fair" - we just need to "get our mouth ready" and remember them! Here are some links that may help:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni6J379_UzEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?...

We have started our geometry and measurement unit. First up? 3D objects! We are talking about and looking at the sides, edges, corners, etc. of 3D shapes and finding lots of classroom objects that are similar. We have been using words like straight, curved, point, top, corners, edges, hollow, solid, roll and flat in order to play I spy and to explain sorting rules. We have noticed that some 3D shapes have triangles, rectangles, circles and squares on their sides! Can your child point out the cylinders, cones, cubes and rectangular prisms? Wow!Here are some videos that help reinforce shape concepts and vocabulary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYaQoBilylshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

In math class we have been talking about the numbers that come before and after a number. We spent some time making sure that we really understand the concept of before and after by talking about our classroom routines, getting ready for events like school or hockey and our position in line. Good old Sesame Street had some humorous clips to help solidify the concepts too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLI00pgykjg  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGAalNtkGFE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86CpFj9SaVk

Friday finished off our week of letter and sound review - the children didn't forget any over the Christmas break! We had a busy day eating alphabet noodles (who knew words could taste so good!), finding the whole alphabet on our clothing and fixing alphabet puzzles while we reinforced alphabetical order. Thank you parents for sending the children with lots of letters on their clothing! Here are some links to videos that entertained (and educated) us this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcq0Mjswdhc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU4FKj0OmWs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1H-LTV4pkU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyKdUpJQBTY

We were all excited to focus on letter Z this week - the last letter! We learned about Zebras and spelled words like zoo and zoom. Riley's mom sent in delicious zucchini muffins - yum! We had a discussion about the two ways to pronounce the letter z- "Zed" and "Zee". See if your child can explain it to you! Here are some videos so you can celebrate too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXVEwkS8SyQ  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQZl9fRCQbo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexwRQUSNrQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZBWuLs-GXc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZnOCiD8A8 This video might make you contemplate the question: "Is a zebra black with white stripes or white with black stripes?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51sUETbqo6Q

Xavier Fox is our Zoophonics animal for the letter X. We could not find many words that start with X, but we could write some with X at the end! Ask your child to spell fox, box, fix, six, ax, and ox - I bet they can do it! Challenge them with the word EXIT. We did watch a cool video of a fox pouncing on its prey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP15zlyra3c  And some silly foxes jumping on a trampoline: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8xJtH6UcQY  This man on Sesame Street had the same problem we did -finding words that start with x: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rOUYaQ6a0g  On Monday we will read Rosie's Walk. I want the children to notice that the fox is very sly and always wants to eat things like chickens and gingerbread!

Check out this Story Bot video - every question has an answer that starts with Q! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC93kxBMcvE This Sesame Street character tried to make an upper case Q but he has a few problems: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSzB1kDWpto Lower case q is tricky - sometimes it has a curl on the tail, but sometimes it doesn't! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGAE81hD3lg Our zoophinics animal for the letter q is Queeny Quail. Here is video of a real quail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEKIAteCDYU We also learned that q is very shy - it always needs it friend u right beside it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yqcZRjSGKI

Now Mrs. Hendry would never encourage anyone to kick Santa but that Mrs. Holmes showed her this cool site where you can help the reindeer get Santa in the chimney. Have fun! http://www.coolmath-games.com/holiday-Christmas-games-puzzles/super-sant...
