We were all excited to focus on letter Z this week - the last letter! We learned about Zebras and spelled words like zoo and zoom. We had a discussion about the two ways to pronounce the letter z- "Zed" and "Zee". See if your child can explain it to you! Here are some videos so you can celebrate too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXVEwkS8SyQ(link is external) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQZl9fRCQbo(link is external)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jexwRQUSNrQ(link is external) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZBWuLs-GXc(link is external) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZnOCiD8A8(link is external)This video might make you contemplate the question: "Is a zebra black with white stripes or white with black stripes?" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51sUETbqo6Q

Xavier Fox is our Zoophonics animal for the letter X. We could not find many words that start with X, but we could write some with X at the end! Ask your child to spell fox, box, fix, six, ax, and ox - I bet they can do it! Challenge them with the word EXIT. Watch a cool video of a fox pouncing on its prey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP15zlyra3c(link is external) And some silly foxes jumping on a trampoline: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8xJtH6UcQY(link is external) This man on  Sesame Street had the same problem we did -finding words that start with x: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rOUYaQ6a0g(link is external)    Don't forget the Storybots! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPms5-6PfA

Check out the cute snowmen we made because we accepted the ASD-N challenge to build snowmen! We have been learning about 2-D and 3-D shapes so it was the perfect time to do it. Can your child name the 3D shapes they made from playdoh to assemble their snowman? Check out our "flat" snowmen too!...

We have met almost all of our Zoophonics animals! We talked about Yancy Yak and her sound today. We practiced reading and writing some popular words that start with /y/ too - the words yes and you that are on our word wall. Many children are excited to spell the color words now too - yellow starts with y.  Check out this Yakety Yak Sesame Street video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJfr8jSVnHY(link is external) And why do we love Y? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qGHh0_6Xbc(link is external) The children met Cliff Hanger from the PBS show Between The Lions. Can your child yodel? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwbte-tD9cc(link is external) Parents may enjoy Nora Jones singing about the letter y -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEzxchU4RUY(link is external)

Hear them both when the Story Bots sing "Unstoppable U": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCwiFQh3BZk(link is external)We used the letter U in our "magic word maker" and we made and read some of these words: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17lyXMgkk9E&list=PLe5MVpQEpecY5uygy1tYsDM...

We were finding some shape names tricky but are getting much better with practice. We can also find shapes when we have clues that describe them. We use words like straight, curved, and points when we talk about the sides and corners.

Here are some videos that you may want to watch together:         https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3cD9PN6K7U          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIBwyohrLmA   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Kkr9U1Wjbw            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIPJrZNAYb4
