Mrs. Hendry - Archived - 08/2013

Welcome To Our Page

We have been learning about all the parts of the orchestra by helping Violet and Uncle Ollie collect the missing instruments on this great site: http://listeningadventures.carnegiehall.org/ypgto/index.aspx In class the children took turns helping Violet, but at home they may be able to do the whole adventure! If you register, the game will save where you leave off each time.

Mrs. Hendry wasn't at school today and what did the children do?!? Take off for a walk around the community! They even got a peek inside the police and fire stations. Mrs. Henderson sent me these pictures as proof. There will be lots of answering questions for those sneaky children tomorrow!

What a great day! The sun shone down on us and the temperature was warm enough to enjoy the water. Enjoy the pictures. You will see the nature walk first, lunch photos and then finally - the main event- sun, salt and sand!

The tall ships are coming! The timing was perfect to read boat books and sing these songs: Row, Row, Row Your Boat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7otAJa3jui8 I'm on a Boat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGf1ITv8qM8 If your get a chance top take in the festival see if your child can tell you the parts of the boat. We talked about the mast, the bow, the stern, and the hull.

We have been having sooo much fun learning even more about farms (and reading, writing, and counting farm things) since our field trip Monday. Here is a link to the cow song got us ready to spell "cow" and other "ow" words. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3_7UikPpcg We discovered that if we know how to spell cow we can also spell how, now, bow, chow, and plow. These smart kindergarten children also noticed that "ow" chunk is in th word "down" - which helps us read and write town, brown, clown, crown and gown! Wow! Want to draw a cow? Here is a link to a how to draw page on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SXlyuOE0JyQ#!

We had a great morning at Schenkels' dairy farm! We toured the milking "parlour", learned about all the types of food cows eat, and we got to feed the cows some hay! We hopped on a wagon and had a tour of the silos and the fields. Farmer John showed us the baby calves that were born only a few days...

We are very excited to be going on our train trip to Rogersville tomorrow! Choo! Choo! Check out this website from Library and Archives Canada as it has lots of interesting train facts: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/trains/kids/index-e.html If you really feel like chugging down the track try singing these songs: I've Been Working On The Railroad (with some old train track building footage!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lDlfDtJYF8 Children’s  version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtAGTm5WHTs "Train is Coming" with some great pictures of trains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly9oC3OZmWE
Wow! What great spellers we have in kindergarten! After an exciting spell-off in our classroom, our three finalists advanced to the contest in the gym. Emma, Bria and Cade represented us very well and didn't even seem nervous on the stage in front of everyone. You made us proud!
