A big congratulations to all the grade 6 students for their hard work and dedication in completing their STEM Fair projects! On Tuesday February 24th each of the classes at NSEE had the opportunity to visit the projects in the Library as part of the school STEM showcase.  Great work grade 6.  Have a fun March Break! Mr. Henderson

This is a notice to students and parents the STEM Fair projects are now due.  Students must bring their projects to the school where they will be on display in the library over the next 3-4 school days.  Grade 6 students will have a chance present their projects to each of the classes during class visits. Each student must present their project for judging based on district look-fors.  Projects may qualify to go to the district fair in March.  Details to follow. NOTE:  Students in grade 6 will begin the next unit "Variety of Life" following March break.  In this unit students will explore micro-organisms, kingdoms, and classification of living things.

This is a reminder to grade 6 students that they must have their display boards brought in by Wednesday January 21st.  Science Fair projects will need to be completed by Friday February 13th 2015.  Projects will be presented the week of February 16th.  Extra time will be permitted if necessary.   Below are useful document in helping complete the project!

This is a note to students and parents that the unit on Electricity is now complete.  Students will begin working on Science Fair projects over the next four weeks in class and at home. Class time will be dedicated for students to develop/research their project, work with peers, and ask questions.  It will be required that each student develop a project over the next four weeks.  Students will present the project in class following the four week work period.   Students may be chosen based on teacher judging/evaluation to represent NSEE at the District STEM Fair in March!   Good Luck grade 6 students!   Mr. Henderson

Parent Update: Students are now working on series and parallel circuits in class.  They are currently building series circuits using various materials provided.  Each student will be formatively assessed on building a working series and parallel circuit.  They will also be required to draw a diagram using appropriate symbols of their working circuit.   Below is a link for students.  It can be used to build circuits online. http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/circuit-construction-kit-dc

Electricity 6M & 6R A note to students and parents that the hand-on activities for "Electriciy" will begin and run for the next two weeks.  Students will be engaged in building working series and parallel circuits. Students will also explore "Electro Magnets" and how/why they work and where they are used in everyday life!   NOTE: Students will be formatively assessed during their class work on circuit building.  Outcome completion is noted during the group work on circuits.
Homework:    Task 1: Record in your journal a daily log of all activities from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night.   Task 2: Indicate how/if electricity is being used in each activity listed.   Task 3: Now Imagine yourself living 200 years ago before electricity was used. Try creating a list of activities you might do without the use of electricity.   NOTE: Grade 6M due on Thursday October 30th and 6R due on Friday October 31st.

A reminder to students that we have finished our unit on "SPACE" and will be starting our next unit on "ELECTRICITY". This unit is very hands on and may require students to bring in simple materials to perform tasks related to electricity.
