Today a sheet went home with a challenge for students to do at least one green activity each day.  We are still looking for a picture from each student. So far, I have a picture from: Collin, Jax and Marianne. Please send or email one to me this week. Thanks!

As part of our You & Your World curriculum we have been talking about our environment for quite some time. This week we started discussing ways to protect the environment. There are so many things that each person, no matter how small, can do to help. Families can work together to make a difference and have some fun doing it. Below are some links for games and activities to explore together! Earth day is on April 22nd this year - a note will be sent home on Monday regarding a little project! http://ehs.columbia.edu/ReduceReuseRecycle.html http://www.kidsbegreen.org/ http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/explore/reduce/

We have been talking about hibernation at school and it is amazing how different each animal is. The students took home a sheet to record information about 1 animal that hibernates. Here are a few videos that we watched at school. They can use the animals mentioned here or find some others. We will be using their information for a "Show and Tell" time on Monday!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm6uUpF0p5U (great information on various animals)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BstmnCYwAE8 (song)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcl4FwsKDSghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

We have been having "Funny Fridays" all year. On Friday we have a joke of the day - the kids are really enjoying these! They keep forgetting to share them at home so I told them I would try to remember to post the joke each Friday. I won't put the answer in the hopes that they remember the punch line!  Here is todays:   What key has legs and can't open doors?

We have been preparing for Thanksgiving all week. We have made crafts, read stories, wrote about what we are thankful for and sang some songs about turkeys! This song is a favorite. Have your child sing it to you.   I’m  glad  I’m  not  a  turkey, a  turkey,  a  turkey. I’m  glad  I’m  not  a  turkey on  Thanksgiving  Day. They’ll  cook  you and  baste  you. And  then  they’ll  all  taste  you. Oh,  I’m  glad  I’m  not  a  turkeyon  Thanksgiving  Day.

This week we will be working with the "ad" word family. We will practice at school but be sure to review the words at home as well. It is a good idea to signal them using our Zoo phonics actions but also try writing them on paper to get ready for our quiz on Friday!  The words are: dad, fad, lad, mad, sad, bad, pad, glad

We have been talking about vowels and how important they are. Did you know that there is at least one vowel in every English word! Wow, they are so important. Keep reviewing the vowels (a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y).  Here is a fun video that we used last week in class. See if you can sing along and keep up with those vowel sounds!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR-BLFZyAWs

I was so glad to meet my new class today! We have a great mixture of last year's kindergarten classes. It is nice that the students have some familiar faces as well as some new ones. We had a super start to our new year. I took some pictures (of course) and will post them as soon as I receive all the permission to publish forms. Be sure to check back for the pictures and some exciting projects that we are working on!Back to School
