We had fun talking about the terms before and after today. The children could answer questions like what do you do before you get out of bed? (Wake Up) and What do you do after you go to bed? (Go to sleep) Have fun with this at home - before/after supper? before/after playing?

The children thought these videos were hilarious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLI00https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86C...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1ctoilyz4I

Wow! We heard and found the letter r all over the place! We watched rabbit videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR0wgAMSJ4A(link is external) We read a story about Rudolph and sang the song too:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM6mDRhKAcA We have lots of students that start with R: Rylan, Rylie and Ryker. Other students found the letter r at different places in their names and on their clothing. Can they spell the Christmas color that starts with r? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMfkODJw30M

We are having a great time finding all the combinations that make numbers to 5. Mrs. Buggie, our math lead, was in today and she showed us this game that was fun. Here is the link if you want to play it at home:  http://www.abcya.com/fuzz_bugs_number_bonds.htm

We are learning to read and spell this word "in a snap"! Stay tuned for this word in their homework and in their new guided reading books too! Exciting!

We have spent the last few weeks learning the numbers 1-4. On the long weekend the children may enjoy looking through magazines or store flyers to find pictures with 1, 2 and 3 things. See if they can make a page for each number. Write the number on the top of the page and then find as many pictures as you can with that number. For instance in a flyer you may see 2 apples or 2 shirts. We have also enjoyed watching some funny videos for each number of the day.  These videos can be found on the Sesame Street website below. Click on "videos" and then type in search "number 4" or whichever number you are interested in. There will be lots of choices. Also on the same website you can click on "games" and search "counting" to find some fun activities.http://www.sesamestreet.org/

I almost forgit to post about the letter c! How could I resist the classic Cookie Monster song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye8mB6VsUHw(link is external) and the Story Bots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDnzj88O6aQ(link is external) We practiced spelling cat and we tried car too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frRcDMGdTWM(link is external) But be careful! We found out that C is a copycat letter! It copies Kayo Kangaroo's /k/ sound but it also copies Sammy Snake's /s/ sound! And it makes a different sound when it is with the letter h, in words like chair, check, cheek...can you think of more? Tricky!

We have seen the letter e everywhere this week! Our Zoophonics animal is Ellie Elephant so we read elephant information books and watched a few video clips to learn about these enormous animals. We wished we lived close to the zoo so we could ride on an elephant (like Mrs. Hendry and her granddaughter Annabelle did!). Here is the link for the E Story Bot song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2q2mq5KOmo(link is external) And Ellie's friend Eddie's egg song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXcpYuhtPz8(link is external) Stomp your feet and swing your "trunk" to this Hap Palmer Elephant song video with your child: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSsDbneWFJ8(link is external)

Take a look at the octopus video we watched because Olive Octopus is our Zoophonics O animal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH0JNSIrBA4(link is external) Here is the Story Bots Letter O link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0LOjbDKvq4(link is external) And Sesame Street's "Would you like to buy an O?" that reminded us about the two sounds for O: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml6Yqu-spnM(link is external) The children are hearing letters in more places than just the start of words too. That Olive Octopus was in the middle of words like Mom and dog. They are starting to blend sounds to make words both orally and by making the sounds of the letters they see. So smart!

It is tricky to make a number 2. We say "Around and back like a railroad track, 2, 2." These videos help us recognize the numeral 2 too.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7NVWrooer8  The Baker is at it again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RyVoRTpaj0 Number of the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-kMsBMh6Ng  Limerick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWW-7B2pcZA

We are counting  and making numerals now. Of course we start with 1 because "a straight line 1 is fun"! Check out these videos for extra counting fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxD7P4aQ1DQ   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsJRlfjYo9Y   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHOUKi_PUKg

What great counters we are becoming! We can even look at arrangements up to 5 and know the number by using our eyes and our brains. Taht is called "subitizing". Can you keep up to your child and say the amount before the number shows?    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yyz_OycV4A
