The Story Bots have lots of words that start with the /j/ sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bGQ-XlLk8M (link is external) In our class, we have 1 student with a names starting with J - Jase.  The Sesame Street crew have some names that star with J too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYMpRSvg2Y (link is external) We will make Jack-o-lanterns too (paper ones so far!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mph3hygIFU (link is external) We will practice making the letter J - both the upper case that stands on the line and the lower case that looks like a fish hook hanging in the water.

We are learning the numbers 1-5! On the weekend the children may enjoy looking through magazines or store flyers to find pictures with 1 -5 things. See if they can make a page for each number. Write the number on the top of the page and then find as many pictures as you can with that number. For instance in a flyer you may see 2 apples or 2 shirts. We  will enjoy watching some funny videos for each number of the day.  These videos can be found on the Sesame Street website below. Click on "videos" and then type in search "number 4" or whichever number you are interested in. There will be lots of choices. Also on the same website you can click on "games" and search "counting" to find some fun activities.http://www.sesamestreet.org/

Halloween is a great time to learn about the letter V too! There was a cute vampire on our door the children could read his speeech bubble as they walked in...."I am a vampire".  We read about bats and vampire bats. We found out they are not as scary as we thought! Can your child tell you how vampire bats get their food?  We found lots of other words that start with /v/ too. Grover has lots in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQb6gTJD7zA(link is external) Check out this V Video - a  volcano ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAiLobOIUTw(link is external) And we can't forget the Story Bots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNnVgNuagWM

Mrs. Hendry's W Wand could not help pointing to things in the classroom that started with the /w/ sound! It went to a wall, Will, water, a pictures of a witch, and Willie Weasel's picture! Wow! Our Zoophonics animal is Willie Weasel but since it is so close to Halloween we had to talk about Wanda Witch too! Check ou this video; did you notice the weasel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWaF-BKPO1A   The children laughed at the antics of the letter W with Kermit The Frog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN_0HDXCyNs (link is external) The Letter W was tricky getting away from the Detective. How did he get away? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0iLTufp_bk (link is external)

Hard-working Innie Inchworm helped us learn about the two sounds for letter I. The children are getting good at hearing the i sound in the middle of words too. We had to use our sharp eyes and brains to find the tricky letter I that looks just like a lower case L! These videos help us remember the letter name: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHr9LqADJ1Q  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG1nCrnUim4  Here is the link to the StoryBots Letter I song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phqQO-istAI&feature=fvsr (link is external)  Sheryl Crow went to Sesame Street to sing with her friend the Letter I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUcWNz4YXlA (link is external)

We have been comparing amounts (dogs/balls; children/chairs...) and using the terms more, fewer and the same amount. Check out this link with your child to have some fun with the terms at home: http://www.ixl.com/math/kindergarten/fewer-and-more-comparing-groups Fewer is a bit tricky because we tend to say "a few more" but be careful - fewer actually means less!

Gordo Gorilla had a fancy G g bag! Ask your child what else was in there. Did they remember the Groovy girl? the gold necklace? the garbage can? the ghost? the glasses? Good for them! Check out the gorilla song that taught us interesting gorilla facts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3QkwLkkgUY(link is external) We also learned about the word go and watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PaKQ9dVk1U(link is external) Don't feed them too many Gummy Bears or you may need to do this dance to wear it off!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbZosS4dX3g (link is external) I also read them a few stories with a ghost - Halloween is coming!
