Olive Octopus and the Letter Oo

Take a look at the octopus video we watched because Olive Octopus is our Zoophonics O animal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH0JNSIrBA4(link is external) Here is the Story Bots Letter O link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0LOjbDKvq4(link is external) And Sesame Street's "Would you like to buy an O?" that reminded us about the two sounds for O: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml6Yqu-spnM(link is external) The children are hearing letters in more places than just the start of words too. That Olive Octopus was in the middle of words like Mom and dog. They are starting to blend sounds to make words both orally and by making the sounds of the letters they see. So smart!

Hanging Monkeys - Literacy

This is a great game to practice remembering letter sounds and blending them. Have your child make the sound of each letter in the word and see if they can "hear" the word that the sounds are making. If this is still difficult for them you can make the 3 sounds and see if they can hear the word. We have been practicing blending words in class. They have been guessing my secret word! We have been enjoying this little game. This is an important pre-reading skill that can be lots of fun to practice.

Spending a few minutes each day playing games will help strengthen your child's number concepts. Computer games are a great way to learn while having fun! This game is also tablet friendly.

This is a great game for counting as well as numeral recognition. You can choose numbers up to 5 or numbers up to 10. If your child doesn't have a solid knowledge of the numbers 1-5 yet, just focus on those numbers for now. This game is also tablet friendly.
