Kindergarten will be practicing making our numerals to 3. We are really good at counting that high but we like to take a break and watch these counting videos. The "Counting Crows": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llezjMibxp4(link is external) The Clumsy Baker videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXnxTbCECjw&list=PL6DB1240B37018C21(link is external) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmfSEuq1F3w(link is external) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUqwzttQ3wQ

We have also been counting forwards and backwards to and from 10. Here are a few songs we have enjoyed singing:

Mrs. Henderson's W Wand could not help pointing to things in the classroom that started with the /w/ sound! It went to a whale, a walkie-talkie, a window, words, walls and  a lego wagon! Wow! Our Zoophonics animal is Willie Weasel but since it is so close to Halloween we had to talk about Wanda Witch too! Check ou this video; did you notice the weasel? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDJ0a_g-weU(link is external) The children laughed at the antics of the letter W with Kermit The Frog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN_0HDXCyNs(link is external) The Letter W was tricky getting away from the Detective. How did he get away? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0iLTufp_bk

We learned about the hard-working letter I! It makes 2 sounds - /i/ like in "Inny Inchworm" and /i/ like in "ice cream".  You may enjoy watching these Ii clips with your child. How many /i/ sounding words can they remember? They may show you how smart they are by saying words with the /i/ sound in the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phqQO-istAI(link is external)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUcWNz4YXlA(link is external) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG1nCrnUim4(link is external) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHr9LqADJ1Q

Gordo Gorilla was hiding in the fancy G g bag! Ask your child what else was in there. We ran out of time to see everything, what else could be in that Gg bag?  Check out the gorilla song that taught us interesting gorilla facts:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3QkwLkkgUYWe(link is external)  Don't feed them too many Gummy Bears or you may need to do this dance to wear it off!:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hn61z3FlMQWe(link is external) listened to The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and a few stories with a ghost - Halloween is coming!

We have been comparing amounts (dogs/balls; animals/dots...) and using the terms more, fewer and the same amount. Check out this link with your child to have some fun with the terms at home: http://www.ixl.com/math/kindergarten/fewer-and-more-comparing-groups Fewer is a bit tricky because we tend to say "a few more" but be careful - fewer actually means less!

Timmy Tiger is our Zoophonics animal that teaches us the letter and sound for Tt. We made "time for t" this week since it is almost "turkey time"! This video was terrific!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABaWlQgzh90(link is external) How many /t/ words can you think of? Tap your toes for each word.

With all the excitement about our upcoming Apple Farm trip we had to do the letter A!  This song can really help us with the /a/ sound that the letter A and Allie Alligator make: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tif2a8vXeAA(link is external) Here is the Hooray for A Story Bots link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3guwWkqlaGc(link is external) Hardworking Letter A also makes the sound of its letter name - A as in acorn. Here is a link to a funny acorn song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF5qJBTSQK4(link is external)     To help us remember the two sounds that the letter Aa makes we think of two of our classroom friends: Aiyana and Addison! They had perfect names to help us remember our sounds this week.

Peewee Penguin had a mystery P bag in our room! We found lots of P things in it - pennies, a purse, Peter Pan, Pooh Bear, pink paper, a pencil, a pen, a pine cone, and popcorn.  Our lips were popping all day! If you want that popping feeling say the /p/ words in this video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl_D_N1Tsic (link is external) Here is a fun penguin action song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He5Xu11HBkM&list=RDHe5Xu11HBkM

We had a great week learning about the letter Ff. The Zoophonics animal to go along with the letter is Francy Fish. We found lots of words that begin with the letter Ff. Some are body parts: feet, fingers, fist. We read lots of stories about animals that begin with the letter f (frogs, fish, foxes). Listen to the Storybots and see what /f/ words they found:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8e_Oh314Ds (link is external)  Sesame Street has a funny Letter f video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-mEmCuU95c (link is external) Remember to keep practice printing the letter too!

Sammy the Snake came to our class today and brought his S box. Everything in it started with the /s/ sound! Can your child tell you some things that were in it? You may want to check out these fun links for Letter S videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpvnvudDGMw (link is external) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koZhWlZh4b8

We are already learning letters in kindergarten! For the past few days we have been doing lots of activities with the letter Mm. We looked in Missy's box of goodies and found lots of things that begin with the /m/ sound. See if your child can tell you some words that begin with the /m/ sound! Today they looked marvelous with their mustaches on! We have also been listening to many great stories.  Find things around the house that begin with Missy's sound! We also practiced printing the letter Mm. This was a bit tricky for some so please practice making the letter at home (on paper, in flour or cornmeal, with playdoh, etc.) Have fun!
