Copycat Catina and Hard-working Ollie!

Posted: November 24, 2012

Our letters of the week were O and C - both of which have more than one sound! Catina Cat is a copycat because she copies Kayo Kangaroo or Sammy Snake. We even heard a different sound when the C was with an H; like at the start of Cherro's name! Ollie Octopus is one of the hard-working vowels that show up in lots of words. The children are hearing letters in more places than just the start of words too. That Ollie Octopus was in the middle of words like Mom and dog. They are starting to blend sounds to make words both orally and by making the sounds of the letters they see. So smart! Try having your child blend sounds at home by saying short words like cat, dog or mug one sound at a time and getting your child to tell you the word it makes. We call it "Turtle Talk" in the classroom because that is how our puppet, Tommy Turtle, talks all the time. Check out these links to a "reading machine" on You Tube. We have been using the Smartboard for some similar activities. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2hazzQ5bSs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2hazzQ5bSs Please note the calendar item - we have a field trip to the hospital on Wednesday. I'll send home a reminder in their folders on Tuesday.
