Students at North & South Esk Elementary School recently held a cutest pet competition, raising $315.00 for the Miramichi SPCA. The students brought in pictures of their pet along with a $2.00 entry fee. Students in each of the school’s 12 classes each voted for a class finalist. The finalists were displayed in the cafeteria and all of the students got to choose their favorite. The top four pets that received the most votes from the students were displayed at the Sunny Corner Irving over a weekend. Customers voted by placing their change in container that corresponded with each pet.
In the end, it was Emma Sherrard’s Australian Sheppard named Bella that was chosen as NSEE’s Cutest Pet for 2012. Emma received a basket of treats for Bella.
The contest was organized by Grade 6 students Mary Vanderbeck, Skylar Young and Emily Woods. The cheque was presented to Kathy Hamiliton and Sunshine McGraw from the Miramichi SPCA.
