9th Annual Spell-A-Thon

Posted: May 8, 2013

We will be having our annual Spell-A-Thon at NSEE on Thursday, May 9th.  As in previous years, all funds raised will be used for improvements in technology.  This is our ninth year for this event and we are hoping for 100% participation from our students.   All students from grades K-6 will be asked to spell a certain amount of words, depending on their grade level, given by their teacher.  They are asked to get sponsors who will pledge an amount of money for their participation.  Students are encouraged to get sponsors to pledge a flat rate and to collect the money at the time the pledge is made.   Under provincial guidelines, students are not permitted to go door to door to get pledges.  We suggest family members and close relatives, or perhaps parents, can take the pledge sheet to work.   On the day of the Spell-a-Thon, students will be asked to spell their list words in their classrooms.  Those who get 100% on the list words will have a classroom spell-off to determine the top classroom finalists in each class.  The finalists will compete with students in their grade in a final spell-off in the gym.   Prizes will be awarded as follows:  Top speller in each grade will receive a certificate from Scholastic Canada Top fundraiser in each class will receive a gift certificate from Wal-Mart The class that raised the most will receive a “Make Your Own Sundae” party. All participants will be eligible for draws.
