We had no problem coming up with words that start with D! Take a look at how many /d/ words there are in this story Bots video alone!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7E-tnTiW_Y(link is external)  The children are excited to learn words now too - so here is a video that went with the book we read about a d-o-g, dog! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBYuSmqG6fw(link is external) We also practiced writing the word Dad. We didn't listen to this song about My Dad, but you might enjoy it together.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9X6S-PPRso(link is external)

November is a great month for Nigel Night Owl to come visit! This week we learned about the N n sound, how Nigel is nocturnal, and how to spell the word "no". The StoryBots filled us in on when we need an N: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZG0GQTskhE(link is external) PBS kids has a great short video about what it means to be nocturnalhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NFbJYp3R54:

The children had great fun constructing Jack-o-lantern catapults today. We used popsicle sticks, elastics, and a spoon to try to knock down our paper cup towers with our candy Jack-o-lanterns. We were not successful on our first try but we many tried again at free work time.

We heard lots of words that started with the /j/ sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bGQ-XlLk8M(link is external) In our class, we we only have Jazxon whose name starts with J. So we changed all our names to J names! We thought of lots of our friends and family  who do have a J - just like the Sesame Street crew: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYMpRSvg2Y(link is external) We practiced making the letter J - both the upper case that stands on the line and the lower case that looks like a fish hook hanging in the water. Be lookout for Jack-o-lanterns in bookbags.

We voted for our pumpkin face today. Fewer people voted for a happy pumpkin than a scary one.

Halloween is a great time to learn about the letter V too! There was a cute vampire on our door the children could read his speeech bubble as they walked in...."I am a vampire".  We read about bats and vampire bats. We found out they are not as scary as we thought! Can your child tell you how vampire bats get their food?  We found lots of other words that start with /v/ too. Grover has lots in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQb6gTJD7zA(link is external) Check out this V Video - a  volcano ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAiLobOIUTw(link is external) And we can't forget the Story Bots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNnVgNuagWM

We were very intrigued when Jacob from Grade 6 came to visit today. He and his grandfather showed us his prosthetic arm and the attachments Jacob uses to do lots of different activities. I forgot to take pictures but here is the link to the site that has more information about CHAMPS (Child Amputees): http://www.waramps.ca/ways-we-help/child-amputees/ Thanks to Jacob's grandfather for also bringing freebies from the War Amps!
