Our New Adventure

Posted: March 31, 2017

On Thursday we had some special visitors to our classroom. Elizabeth Price and Katrina Clair came and read us a story about some animals who were very helpful. Ask your child to tell you the story. They also sang a few Mi'kmaq songs, let us try their drums and taught us to say "Thank you" in Mi'...

We had lots of fun in math class lately. In our measurement unit we have been checking out how long/ tall and short things are compared to each other.

You may want to have some fun with this at home! Here are some ideas: Line your family up in order of height;  line up shoes in order of length; roll out playdoh (or cookie dough ! ) - who can make the longest :"snake"? ; line up the stuffed animals in order of height...

Sesame Street has fun with this concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVJQcwga0eI (link is external)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USGCnq0SRms (link is external) and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtDBSvDbzxA (link is external)

Ask your child about "the same starting point" as you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWHivueHzg (link is external)

Here is a link to some printable worksheets that address this topic too: http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/tall-short.php

Sleep For Kids

We have been talking about Healthy Bodies for the past few months. We have learned a lot about healthy eating, hygiene, excercise and sleeping. Today we learned a lot about why it's important to get a good nights sleep and some things we should do as well as some things we shouldn't do before bedtime.  Check out this website and discuss it! There are also some games that you can print and play. Have fun!

Sight Word Bingo

Can you believe that we have learned 20 sight words already! This is a fun game to practice. There are some words on the game that we haven't learned yet, but no problem! When your child hears a word that they don't know, encourage them to listen to the inital sound and find a word that begins with that letter. If more than one word begins with the sound, then look at the ending letter. This will help them with sight words AND looking across the whole word. Great reading skills!
